Brayers are traditionally used for printmaking, but Joe Ruck uses it with oil paints on canvas. The tool gives a unique, impressionistic style that is bold and expressive. He wanted a website that would have these similar characteristics.

This is an example of a brayer. They come in various sizes allowing the artist to create fine and broad strokes.
I wanted to showcase his very colorful and energetic style. On the homepage the painting would take up nearly the whole screen. It would also change each time a new user visits.
There were a lot of paintings in his collection, so I came up with an idea that would best utilize the screen space and also resemble a brayer. The vertical columns look like a stroke from the brayer.
When a visitor clicks one of the paintings, Lightbox gets activated and enlarges the piece of art. It also allows the user to scroll through all the work in the category and see the name, price and availability.
Visitors can also see more about the artist and exhibits he is currently doing. They can also contact him with any questions about his art.
